My Secret Love Affair

With this being a Valentines blog hop, I am going to tell the world about my secret love affair..............with books. That's right. I admit it. I love books and I won't stop. I'd tell you not to tell my husband, but he already knows.

I could spend my entire life lost in a good book. Fiction, non-fiction, articles, short stories, poetry - I love them all.

It started when I was a young girl and my mother gave me A Child's Garden of Verses by Robert Lewis Stevenson. 

By the way, you can buy this book and no doubt any of your favorite childhood books at March House Books. Be sure to take a look. It's owned by the sweetest woman, Barbara, and I could spend days looking at this marvelous collection.

I read A Child's Garden of Verses over and over and over again. Because of this book, I started writing poetry and stories.

The next big step for me was in high school. In an advanced literature class, we studied the classics. How I loved Canterbury Tales, Beowulf, and Shakespeare. Off to college I went and studied languages. Reading in those languages was quite a joy. My father subscribed me to Readers Digest in French, German and Chinese. On to graduate school where I studied Classical and Documentary Chinese and read Kung Tzu (Confucius) and Meng Tzu (Mencius).

You'd think after studying so much literature in high school and college, I'd be tired of reading. But no, I had become addicted. Put a book in my hands and it could be days before I traveled back to reality.

I have read books by the greatest authors of our time to the unknown authors of our time, and you know, I've enjoyed them all.

James Michener, Agatha Christie and Edgar Allan Poe remain my favorites.

Still, the desire to publish my own works burned deep within me. I began to join writing groups and discovered authors who have fast become my favorites: Roger Lawrence:

Three Hoodies Series and Kongomato took me to outer space, where 3 fun lads travel worlds beyond ours and to London, where a monster from the past creates havoc. Then there's his short story collection, A Little Twist

 

Joleene Naylor's Amaranthine Series has me begging her constantly for more, more, more Jorick and Katura, and of course Verchiel. Amaranthine Series

Rodney Johnson's Sci Fi works are brilliant (and advanced Sci Fi writings like no other) Rodney Johnson Books

Devon Cooper is a Romance novelist and although I don't like Romances, I do love to read her works. I'm currently reading her Bad Day and quite enjoying it. Bad Day

 As long as I'm talking Romance, Mark R. Hunter has a sweet and funny Romance book that I loved. Storm Chaser

Well, I can go on all day, but I will mention just one other author that I love. Robinson Mason, a sci fi/fantasy writer. I am soooooo into his stories right now. Rovinson Mason Books

I wish I could list all my favorite authors, but I'll stop here.

Did I ever write my own book? Yes, I did. Always
