Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Elizabeth Barrett Browning was a well-known poet of the Victorian era.  Born in England, she was educated in her home.  This brilliant poet wrote her first well-known poem before the age of 10 years old.  Her poetry was popular in both the U.S. and England.  Later in life, she met the poet Robert Browning and they married.

They are two of my favorite poets, but Ms. Browning's poems can touch my heart in a very tender way.  This isn't surprising, such much of her work has religious/spiritual themes.  Edgar Allan Poe (my favorite poet) held her in high esteem.

Her poetry is perfect for that time of day when you want to curl up with a good book and want to be emotionally charged by what the writer says.  I have not come across one of her poems that I don't like.  Gentle prose,  easy  to understand, floating rhythms.  I can only hope that my poetry will one day touch my readers as her poetry affects me.
